Tertia's Book Shower

Welcome to Tertia's book shower for her book, So Close. If you don't know the guest of honour, scooch on over to her blog for a moment and familiarize yourself. Her book, which grew out of her blog, follows in a similar tone: frank, funny, anguishing, snarky, and honest. She takes the reader from the first days of trying to conceive to the birth of her twins, with multiple IVF cycles and losses along the way.

This book isn't about how to get through infertility or loss, but about one woman's struggle to make sense of the years she spent building her family. For me, the purpose of any memoir is similar to the purpose of a blog--it gives you insight into someone's world, and it gives you a common ground to stand on together. And that is where Tertia takes you; into the world of someone addicted to hope so that you can understand how she made her decisions and what drove her to put one foot in front of the next.

Many wanted to celebrate Tertia and her hard work today. So grab an appletini (please ignore the creepy bartender serving you) and an hors d'oeuvre from the table, and start chatting with the other guests at the party by clicking on a link below:

Hi Mel - thanks for hosting this. I'm, for once, going to chat with ALL the guests :) . Your question: definitely Akeeyu's (http://herveryown.typepad.com). Doesn't matter how complex, hard and tough life comes down on her, she gives it back so that you cry with laughter. I hope she may one day consider.

I am definitely not a writer. There are some blogs that read like a novel, but mine reads mostly like a pre-teen's diary.

As far as a blog turning into a book, I would have to say Pam at http://bloodsigns.blogspot.com/. I love her outlook on life and seeing the world through her eyes. Her descriptions are so vivid, it is easy to feel as if you were there.

I vote for Pam, too!

Also, I think Luna has a lot of wisdom and great writing ability.

There are so many...

Thank you for organizing this shower -- I've so enjoyed "meeting" new people here, without having to guess anyone's tummy size.

Thanks for hosting the shower, Mel -- I am having a lot of fun reading what everyone else has to say.

I agree Pam & Luna's blogs would make excellent books. I would also add Lori's (Weebles Wobblog) -- I just love her whole outlook about adoption & how she has maintained relationships with the birthparents.

I never thought about turning my own blog into a book. I think Pamela Jeanne's book has done a much better job covering our particular market niche anyway. ; )

I'd like to see Julie's blog turned into a book. And Akeeyu's. And a Million Others.

As for me? Have I ever considered it? Sure. But I don't have the voice for it. I wish I did.

Heya, Mel. Thanks so much for hosting this. It's gonna be soooooo much fun.

I've never thought about turning my own blog into a book. I was dumbfounded at Blogher last year when so many people just wanted to figure out a way to make money from their blogs.

I did reread a lot of older posts last night preparing for today and was pleasantly surprised at how well I USED to write. I don't think that's true any more.

Like many old timers I would love to see a book from getupgrrl. There are so many posts of hers that were incredibly moving or incredibly funny or both. And Julie as well. Maybe the whole Vagina Posse should do one together.

Blog I would most like to see as a book (besides yours, which is done!) - Pam of Blood Signs.

Oh, and I said Pam before reading the other comments!

I don't have a blog...so no to the first question. As to the second there are many...but I think Julie's, naturally, Akeeyu's, and Cecily's most definitely. Tertia and Mel have already done theirs, so come on girls and get cracka-lackin'!
FINGERBOARD! (which would be the title of my blog-book, if I had one ;)

I just wanted to congratulate Tertia and the other bloggers who have books coming out this year on sharing their stories with more readers. I posted another comment over @The Road Less Travelled. Can't replicate it here because it's already left the temporary data storage unit that is my brain. :-)

I wish I could write better. I would love to write a book!!!

I need to go out and buy this book, I don't know why for the life of me I haven't.

As for my blog to book? Yea, but when? Really? I don't know how you gals do it. As for who I'd want to read - Lori from Weebles. Her story is very original, and she really de-freakifies open adoption.

Thanks for organizing, Mel. I posted mine much later in the day than I meant to. Boo on me.

Blog into book... I don't think I'd ever do a straight up retelling. I do from time to time think about a related/generalizable subject, but I have no idea if I will ever follow through. I'd love to see Julie write a book. Or getupgrrl, if she ever surfaced again. Damn, I miss her. There are more, but I'd better stop before I fantasize all of my money away into hypothetical future book purchases.

I miss getupgrrl and would buy a book from her in a heartbeat. I am so sad her archives aren't available because someone was stealing her work.

Very Cool.

I've thought about turning my blog into a book but, then again, I would cry if no one bought the book. :(
