The 44th Circle Time: The Show and Tell Weekly Thread

Show and Tell is wasted on elementary schoolers. Join several dozen bloggers weekly to show off an item, tell a story, and get the attention of the class. In other words, this is Show and Tell 2.0. Everyone is welcome to join, even if you have never posted before and just found out about Show and Tell for the first time today. So yank out a photo of the worst bridesmaid's dress you ever wore and tell us the story; show off the homemade soup you cooked last night; or tell us all about the scarf you made for your first knitting project. Details on how to participate are located at the bottom of this post.

Let's begin.

Last weekend, everyone in the family got to choose an activity that everyone else had to do too. I chose returning to Shepherdstown to get tea since we never actually got my Assam black the last trip. Was it worth an hour-long drive for scones and clotted cream? I think so.

This is the teahouse below. It's this wonderful, Middle Eastern themed teahouse complete with red gauze curtains and a fabric ceiling. You feel as if you are inside a tent rather than a West Virginian town.

You may notice that I have stickers on my ears. These are my "earrings." I allowed the ChickieNob to make me fancy before we left.

And because I had to pee in Urbana again, here is the sign that sparked our new favourite term. Apologies, it was taken out of our dirty windshield.

What are you showing today?

Click here or scroll down to the bottom of this post if this is your first time joining along (hint: link to the permalink for the post, not the main url for your blog and use your blog's name, not your name). The list is open from now until late Tuesday night and a new one is posted every week.

Want to bring something to Show and Tell?
  • If you would like to join circle time and show something to the class, simply post each Saturday night (or earlier in the week or on Monday if you can't do the weekend), hopefully including a picture if possible, and telling us about your item. It can be anything--a photo from a trip, a picture of the dress you bought this week, a random image from an old yearbook showing a person you miss. It doesn't need to contain a picture if you can't get a picture--you can simply tell a story about a single item. The list opens every Saturday night and closes on Tuesday night.
  • You must mention Show and Tell and include a link back to this post in your post so people can find the rest of the class. This spreads new readership around through the list. This is now required.
  • Label your post "Show and Tell" each week and then come back here and add the permalink for the post via the Mr. Linky feature (not your blog's main url--use the permalink for your specific Show and Tell post).
  • Oh, and then the point is that you click through all of your classmates and see what they are showing this week. And everyone loves a good "ooooh" and "aaaah" and to be queen (or king) of the playground for five minutes so leave them a comment if you can.
  • Did you post a link and now it's missing?: I reserve the right to delete any links that are not leading to a Show and Tell post or are the blogging equivalent of a spitball.

I so want to hit a teahouse with you sometime!

I will be sure to wear my sticker earrings too . . .

Oh, I love tea. There was this fantastic teahouse in the small Connecticut town where I used to nanny in the summers. At the end of summer I would buy a bag of the best chai blend ever and carefully ration it out all winter.
I'm glad you finally got your tea.
And those earrings are fantastic - they make me think of the sticker earring I used to wear because unlike *everyone else in the entire world* I wasn't allowed to pierce my ears.

I'm so glad you *finally* got your tea. I'm even gladder that it was worth the drive!

Looks like you had a nice time. Love the earrings. I also enjoyed listening to your interview with Dawn Davenport - heard it last week.

Looks like a great time! And what a cool eclectic look the tea house has.

My aunt was so excited when they started making gem-like stickers and ear clips. She didn't want her ears pierced and she liked to wear earrings but didn't always want to wear clip ons (I have some really cool ones of hers). Of course, she would also use the gem stickers as eyes when she made ceramic animals.

I don't have anything to show this week, but man that teahouse looks freakin' AWESOME! I love tea...we used to have a little teahouse near me, but it closed down. It was so fun to go eat our little cookies and sandwiches.

Glad you finally got to go!

Fingerboarding good tea I'm sure!

Love how the Chickienob made you fancy... a girl after my own heart.

A common tradition of Latin American folk is to have girls' ears' pierced within hours of being born. If you didn't people would gasp and ask how will everyone know it's a girl? Um, the pink frilly didn't give it away?

Anyway, my father put his foot down and having someone stab his daughters ears - so alas I was the lone girl in middle/high school who couldn't wear earrings. But, I always found a way to accesorize! I had gem sticker earrings, and I even had Magnet CZ's! I thought I was so cool!

What a fun afternoon, right down to the Fancy Nancy earrings.

I hope one day to take you to the Dushanbe Tea House in Boulder. It's nowhere near Fingerboard Rd, but it's still cool.

It blows my mind that you are a real person sometimes because you are an IF goddess giving us all these resources! What a lovely idea for tea!

We are going to have to play that game next weekend, I think.

Also, send more pictures of the tea house. In case the whole Taipei tea house thing doesn't work out, this friend of ours wants to run a middle eastern themed one somewhere, and it's never too early (or unlikely to happen) to start gathering ideas for decor.

One thing I lament about living in a small town is that there are no teahouses. There was a great one in Seattle that I used to frequent when I was in college. If you can ever get your hands on "Market Spice" tea from Seattle you should try it. It's incredible! :)

I'm glad you got your tea. And, you are a truly cool mom. Only the coolest mom's wear jewelry made by their kids.

Love that tiny kettle on the table. Nice touch!

I too love tea...but lately seem to have it only in the office (At home, I am partial to coffee).

My father makes great tea.

My Grade 8 students occasionally made me wear sticker earrings. Also stickers-as-makeup and sticker necklaces. Awesome.

How stylish of the chickie :)

The teahouse looks neato... and I totally was laughing at the street name. How odd.

you are always doing such interesting things. I need to get out more. Can you give me fingerboard in a sentence?

loribeth said...

I love tea & tearooms... although the ones hereabouts tend to be more British flavoured than Middle Eastern.

Jamie said...

HA! Thanks for sharing the fingerboard sign!!

That little teapot is so stinkin' cute! I've never been to a teahouse like that, it looks amazing. So glad you got to go at last!

So glad that you got your tea and scones. The best. Also, thank you so much for the street sign pic. We saw Hair up in NYC yesterday and it was a fingerboard incident. Voices were great, but unintelligible and the nudity was gratuitous, not artistic. Oh well. Still glad I saw it.

Mel....#29. I have issues with that.

It sounds like the teahouse was worth every minute of the drive. What a beautiful place! (And thanks for sharing the sign!!)
