March for Babies

Sunday morning, we rolled out of bed and headed over to the walk site for the March for Babies.

forgive the bandana sloppiness--my excuse is that I didn't sleep the night before and had no energy for a pre-walk shower

Allison said it perfectly when she described the walk as bittersweet. We were incredibly grateful for everyone's generosity and support. There was a festive atmosphere with balloons and face painters. And then, underneath it all, it felt a little like the NICU Reunion, this mixture of sadness and fear and gratitude and mournfulness. You can stick balloons on anything and call it a party, but it's hard to mask the intent beneath that pokes at your heart the entire walk.

We met up with Karen from My Perky Ovaries at the walk and were terrible influences on each other. And, once again, I have to admit this to you--I cheated. I took two definite shortcuts and another small tweak of the route to try to catch up with Josh at one point. I know that is going to sound quite pathetic considering the walk was only 4.2 miles, but in toddler distance, that is like a marathon. And the Wolvog and ChickieNob rode their tricycles the entire route. It gives us a larger goal to shoot for next year: finish all 4.2 miles instead of trimming off the .2.

Some enormous thank yous are in order. Words fail to express how grateful I am for all of the donations. All in all, we raised $2272.

You are more than forgiven for cheating on the full distance. In fact, I think you deserve a medal for doing it with children on tricycles. The patience!

I think the bandana looks very sporty. Just right for the occasion.

I've been looking to hearing the walk report. What a great total you guys have managed to raise. Love to hear some great results from that money in the future.

There is no point in taking a pre-walk shower! That would just be a waste.

Way to go!

Wow! Riding a tricycle four miles! That's an impressive accomplishment! So is walking behind a tricycle for four miles. I hope there was ice cream after all that. And I think the bandana looks just fine.

Congratulations on a successful walk this year. Bittersweet is a great description. As I walked, I couldn't help but remember all the weeks DS spent in the NICU and was so grateful that he is so healthy and beautiful now.

Great job to the kids too. My DS would never ride a bike that long.

Hey, I think bandanas are sporty and this was a sporting event. Thanks for all the walking and fundraising you did. I was thinking of you all yesterday morning....such a beautiful day for it!

(and I would have cut off a bit of distance too, with or without twins on trikes)

Twins on trikes - how cute and totally exhausting! Congrats on your fundraising. The March of Dimes is lucky to have your continued support.

I did several laps around Walmart trying to remember why I was there that day so that should more than make up for the .2 :0)

And btw - you ROCK a bandana. I must have an odd shaped head because mine never stay on or look as nice . . .

Awesome job!

Way to go! Especially the tricycle part.
You can change me to my blog name, or not-- it's completely ok either way.
