Live Blogging from the Oscars

Live blogging from the Oscars. By which I mean that I'm cutting-and-pasting some of the Lost and Found for tomorrow and watching the Oscars in bed. Which is not really live blogging from the Oscars. Since...you know...they're in LA and I'm in D.C.

*******
I know, I know, I know I am more sensitive (and Ms. Prufrock had a great post on this about our sensitivity, and she is totally right), but was anyone else bothered by Jon Stewart's joke about Jessica Alba, Cate Blanchett, and Nicole Kidman's pregnancies? And the baby goes to...Angelina Jolie. Just me? It was just me, right?

*******
I thought Ellen Page was going to get best actress. I'm really losing at the betting thing tonight. It would also help if I had seen more than 4 movies this year.

*******
Nicole Kidman, fellow stirrup queen, is announcing right now. She looks fantastic.

*******
I always cry through the in Memoriam section. Especially when they show them in scene or accepting their award. That final picture of Heath Ledger broke my heart.

*******
Diablo Cody is going up to get her award.

Oh, I loved that last line: for my family for loving me just the way I am.

*******
Lesson learned: live blogging from the infertility/pregnancy loss perspective when there is only one movie remotely related nominated and perhaps one joke floating through about pregnancy is a little dull. I'll end by saying the other lesson learned was that I love Tilda Swinton. Josh predicted before she opened her mouth that she would give the best speech and she did.

I'm sure winning an Oscar is about half as rewarding as winning at the IIFF. Which is, by the way, gearing up for another showing in March. I'm just saying.

Jon Stewart is mostly disappointing so far, no? Btw, what did you make of Francis Ford Coppola's Youth Without Youth? It hasn't gotten much play, but it's a more engaging film than many of those being given awards tonight. Here's an interesting discussion of the film.

I thought the Jessica Alba, Cate Blanchett, Nicole Kidman, Angelina Jolie joke was just tasteless. Regardless of our sensitivity. Just tasteless.

I'm bummed Ellen Page didn't win. I loved her performance in Juno. And she reminds me of someone, but I just can't put my finger on who.

I usually like jon stewart, but did not like that joke at all. maybe I'm also just sensitive, but it served to remind me that in the quest for baby there are often "losers" like me. (yeah, I know they don't say "and the winner is" anymore, but you kwim.) just poor taste. besides, my baby was due around when brangelina's baby was born, so it was extra not funny for me. ~luna

Thank goodness I was not the only one who winced at that comment. Even DH who is never perturbed by these things gave me the lifted eyebrow.

Really?? They're pregnant?? I never noticed. (eye roll) Actually, I thought Jon Stewart was better than he was the first time he hosted. And I thought it was nice of him to bring out the girl who got cut off to give her speech (presumably pre-empting some of his own camera time).

What really bothered me was Colin Farrell skidding on the floor, & then Nicole Kidman coming out right after him. I was like, "No, please, DO NOT FALL!!" That would have been just too much drama.

I wrote about the Oscars on my blog too, albeit before the show started.

oh- I totally had blocked out that "and the baby goes to" bit. YUK!

Did you catch Ryan Seacrest asking Alba on the red carpet if she was going to breastfeed? I mean- come ON! Who asks that on live tv??

I'm with Calliope -- that Ryan Secrest question to Jessica Alba was awful! Truly awful. And that was after he asked her on live TV for her due date because hearing she's in her 3rd trimester wasn't enough. Awful. And I don't even like her!

And the Angelina Jolie joke was bad. The night before Angelina went to the Independent Spirit awards baring a very prominent baby belly -- there is no way she isn't currently pregnant unless she has a watermelon sized abdominal tumor. So she'll be getting a baby anyway...I think he just didn't know how to work it all together, which allows me to continue to lurv him, despite his lame joke.

I loved the Diablo Cody line myself, and it made me all teary. Saaaaad.

I couldn't watch the bloody Oscars thanks to being in the UK. Boo!

Wasn't just you, I hated that baby "joke" too. It was just tasteless. Did you see Jessica Alba' face? It looked like she hated it also.

The Angelina Jolie joke didn't bother me too much, but the whole focusing on their pregnancies thing did. It just seemed too personal.

However, I love Jon Stewart and think his humor is generally smart and cutting. He also just seems like a nice guy.

I totally should have been chatting with you during this. My crush looked amazing as usual. I am happy with the best song selection, it's been on heavy rotation for weeks.

Stupid preggers hollywood.

There will be no irritating Angelina baby jokes during the IIFF either, people!
