Friday Blog Roundup

This weekend is the two year anniversary of the book club. Considering that I've never kept a book club going longer than four books (and by the fourth book, there was ten kinds of bitterness over being the only person who actually read said book in time for the meeting), I think that is pretty damn impressive. We won't actually celebrate the anniversary of the book club until January 10th because that was the date of the first online meeting. But it is still nice to nod to the kernel of an idea this weekend. Recognize the small seed.

If you live in the United States of America (I wrote out the full name just to stave off the indignant comments of "America actually refers to two continents" or "United States could be short for the United Mexican States, ignorant bitch!"), I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

And now, the blogs...

Burble had a post about her husband's grief after the loss of their son, George. She wrote: "Part of Ray's grief journey has manifested itself with a series of nightmares. He dreams of dead babies." The post is about the power of the mind or the power of objects--you get to choose which way you wish to leave the post.

Healing Arts had a post about whether or not she is infertile. The idea that she could be fertile (since they have male factor IF) "shocked me at first because I thought, hey, if I’m actually fertile, what have I been beating myself up for all these fine years. But how do I really know if I am or not?" It is about the mind games, the twisting of words, the linguistic reaches. And in the end, still remaining in the same place. But at the same time, it is a post about marriage and it is a beautifully-written one at that.

Barren is the New Black had a post about not posting and her general state of mind. In the spirit of Thanksgiving weekend, it is a post about thankfulness. I just loved its sweetness.

Lastly, Destined to be an Old Woman with No Regrets had a post about naming her lost children. She wrote: "So I was lying there curled up with R and mentioned this to him and said that I need to find a name or some way of referring to them in a way that is consistent with the impact they've had on my life. He then looks at me and says 'Kenneth'. I paused, slightly stunned, as I was 1) a little surprised he was going along with this and 2) that it came to him so quickly and easily. But there we have it." I think such strength can come from being able to name something, speak about them. I just thought it was a lovely post about the birth of a name.

The roundup to the Roundup: truly, nothing much except good wishes for a sweet weekend. I will catch you back here Saturday night for Show and Tell.

I'm thankful for all you do, Melissa Lollipop. My life is much richer for having you in it these past 19 months.

I second Lori -- I don't know what I would have done if not for your gathering place.

Thank you.

Love,

Pam

cCongrats on the book club thingie! One of my senior bosses keeps asking me if I should set one up for where I work (as I happen to be the librarian) but I am a bit loathe to start because of the organisation and ending up the only person who actually reads the flipping books!!

And that's it!! My last post for ICLW this month - I made Iron Commentator Status Woooohoooo!!! All but one - cos it needed a password! Do I get a badge!!? ;-)
