Vote Now: Barren Bitches Book Tour #3

The first order of business is to talk about the name of the book tour since not everyone in the world of infertility is a barren bitch. I mean, most of you are bitches (and I only mean that in the nicest sense of the word. You give that fucking infertility hell!), but regardless of that fact, not everyone is barren. Therefore, what do you think of the term Uterina Ballerinas? It's light. It's delicate. It says, "I am like an artery bringing blood to the uterus AND I can dance." What do you think? The Uterina Ballerina Book Tour? Or just keep it as the Barren Bitches? Leave your choice in your comment when you vote for the next book for the book tour!

Yes, the time has come to choose the next book for book tour three. I've compiled a list of choices below. Click on the titles to see information at Amazon about each book. We have a mix of fiction and non-fiction as well as new and old books on this current list. Some are literally about infertility and others have infertility or loss as part of the plot.

1. Waiting for Daisy by Peggy Orenstein
2. The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
3. Maybe Baby by Lori Leibovich
4. The Red Tent by Anita Diamant
5. Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood
6. Inconceivable by Julia Indichova
7. Crossing the Moon by Paulette Alden
8. Sarah: A Novel by Marek Halter
9. The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini

How to Vote:

In the comments section or in an email to me (thetowncriers@gmail.com), write the number of ALL of the books on the list that you would read. If you literally would read any and all of the books on the list, it's fine to simply write "entire list." Or even to write something along the lines of "every book but #10" (I know, there are 9 choices, but I didn't want to curse one by using it as an example). But please don't put down a book that you wouldn't join in a book tour to read--really, it's okay to eliminate some from the list!

The book that receives the top vote will be used for book tour #3. If there is a tie between one or more books, I'll just randomly assign them out to tour #3, #4, and #5 so people can also plan ahead. It's nice to know way in advance which books we're reading so that you can put your name down on a wait list at the library or share copies.

If a spouse wants to join along, they can either post their own write-up on your blog or consider starting a separate blog simply for the book tour (hence what we did with the Annex). They don't have to post constantly on that blog, but can use it when they're participating in the book club. Since the master list is up on my blog, people will know how to find their write-up. And it's a fun way for you to do something with your spouse...that is...if they know about your blog.

Okay--so voting is open until Sunday at noon. I will post the title of the next book on Monday along with the opening post from this current (book tour two) book tour for Children of Men. So many freakin' books.

And on a side note, completely separate from our book club, I've joined Mother Talk and I'm participating in their next book tour. The book is called A Running Start by Rae Pica. It's great so far. I definitely bring an infertility slant to my reading and I've found myself nodding my head along with her ideas on raising kids. So...just more books. At the end of the day, it's just more books...

Okay--now vote:

On the book for the next book tour AND the permanent on-going title of our book club: Barren Bitches or Uterina Ballerina?

And if you're part of the current tour for Children of Men, look below to see the list of questions.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Updated at 3:23 p.m.: forgot to add that even if you've read a book already, you can still vote to have it discussed in the book tour. There are a few books on the list that I've read and enjoyed, and I'd love to reread them and enter into a discussion about them. Just wanted to add that in case anyone felt like they should only vote for a book they haven't read!

Hummm... My first 2 choices are # 4 The Red Tent by Anita Diamant and #5 Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atw

All of them sound good though to keep on future book tours.

My Choices, in order:

2 (This is my current FAVORITE book! I would love to have an excuse to read it again!)
1
3
6
7

Would read them all. Have read no 5 and 6 already. Handmaids tale is maybe a bit similar to Children of Men, mind you...

The Time Traveler's Wife is one of my all-time favorites, but other than that, I'd read any of them in any order.

Definitely stick with Barren Bitches because I can't dance and neither can my uterus.

Here are my votes in order of appeal (to me):

5. Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood (This is one of my most favorite books and I would love to read it again!)
1. Waiting for Daisy by Peggy Orenstein
4. The Red Tent by Anita Diamant
3. Maybe Baby by Lori Leibovich
8. Sarah: A Novel by Marek Halter

I would be happy with either name, although I agree the second one is technically more inclusive. I kind of got the impression no-one felt excluded by the first one, though.

Um...mm... Time Traveller's Wife.

Love your questions for the #2 tour, by the way. It's easy to see what your job was in a past life!

I am a book SLUT, particularly now that my busy season is over.

That said, I'd vote for ANY of the following (only because I read both the Red Tent and the Kite Runner, and I'd want to read something I haven't read already):

1. Waiting for Daisy by Peggy Orenstein
2. The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
3. Maybe Baby by Lori Leibovich
5. Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood
6. Inconceivable by Julia Indichova
7, Crossing the Moon by Paulette Alden
8. Sarah: A Novel by Marek Halter

And I don't mind the Barren Bitches. But I like Uterina Ballerinas too.

I think I'd read any of them. In fact, I've been wanting an excuse to start The Kite Runner.

I like Uterina Ballerinas. The tone is more upbeat & fun...

I would not be interested in reading #6 or #9.

I would read all the others, with my top three picks being: #8, #4, #5.

Thanks!

My choices are:
1,3,5,6, and 7

Although I do like Uterina Ballerinas for some reason I like Barren Bitches a little more lol. :)

My above all choice: Maybe Baby (3).
Having read all the fiction choices, I would love to reread Handmaid's Tale (5) (man, it's been years!)
I would participate regardless of the choice.
About the name: totally indifferent.

I would read any of those books, and in fact have already read #4 and #5, but would read them again if I can do the book tour. I like the name Uterina Ballerinas.

Well, if I am allowed to join in on this "book tour" (not sure if I am too late as I didn't participate from the start?) my choices would be, in order of preference first to last:

2. The Time Traveler's Wife (have already read this, but it is an amazing book and I would love to discuss it with others.)

6. Inconceivable (have also already read this years ago, but would be interested to read again after all my experiences -- since I read it pre-IVF treatment -- and to hear others' perspectives on it.)

1. Waiting for Daisy (saw this one online months ago and was intrigued, but never ordered it)

3. Maybe Baby (also one I saw online months ago, but didn't order)

I will admit, for a well educated woman, I don't read a lot, so I tend to like memoirs and fluff. That being said, the following piqued my interest, in no particular order.

1. Waiting for Daisy by Peggy Orenstein
3. Maybe Baby by Lori Leibovich (read it, liked it!)
6. Inconceivable by Julia Indichova (on my library list right now, actually)
7. Crossing the Moon by Paulette Alden

I'd read them all so I'm fine with any order.

My vote on the name is to keep Barren Bitches! I think it is much more catchy!

Well, I like Barren Bitches, but whatever you pick is fine.

As for books, well, ANYTHING not written by Margaret Atwood. In Canada, we are forced to read all her stuff, even in grade school.

If I have to read the Handmaid's Tale once more, or write another #$%^% essay, or test or something, I will stick a fork in my eyeball.

Seriously...

I've not been an active participant in the book tour so far, not for lack of interest but more because I've got a pile of books at home that I've been meaning to read (and get back to their owners) for a really long time.

So I'm not sure that I have the full two cents to offer, but reading "Uterina Ballerinas" made me chuckle. That's cute.

I like Uterina Ballerinas, I think it works for "all" of us :)

Um, my first pick is
1.Waiting for Daisy (mostly because I want to read it) and then the
2. Time Traveler's Wife
after that I don't really have any choices, I love the whole list.
so any of them are good for me. I love to read and I never need an excuse :)

I like Barren Bitches. My uterus is about as still as can be!

I've read The Time Traveler's Wife and The Red Tent (both of them twice) and loved both of them. I'd happily contribute to a discussion of either one.

Since I haven't read it, I'm voting for the Handmaid's Tale...but anything that's not chosen for this one is definitely going on my summer reading list!

Nicole said...

I would read any one of these. At least 3 of them are already on my amazon wishlist.

Being the book whore that I am, I would read them all (and have already read a few of them, and would gladly do so again).

I'm agnostic on the name choices.

Ms. Perky said...

My top choice is #2, but I would read any of them except #4.

They all look really interesting...

And the name..I vote to keep the Barren Bitches...as lovely as Uterina Ballerina sounds there is no part of me that is able to dance. Truly...I have witnesses. Plus, I just like the general snarkiness of the Barren Bitches...it always makes me smile!

I LOVE the name “Barren Bitches”! It always gives me a chuckle when I read/say it. I think we should definitely keep it!

I’ve been devouring books lately so I’m open for any/all books you suggest.

(I read INCONCEIVABLE last month and LOVED it! I couldn’t put it down. I’d love to read it again. All of the others look great too. I can’t wait to start on them!)

Hi, I'm a book slut so I would read any and all of them.

My top three would probably be Waiting for Daisy, Inconceivable and Crossing the Moon but all of them sound great and I've been wanting to read a few of them for a while now (The Time Traveller's Wife and The Kite Runner).

On the bottom of my list I would probably put the Marek Halter, although I have heard from several people what a great author he is, and The Red Tent. I don't know why but I have always shyed away from books set in a time over a hundred years ago but maybe it would do me good to branch out. And my father recommended I read Rachel's story so I guess reading Sarah's would be almost the same, yes?

I think I'd read any of those. No preference on order.
