Proud to be an American

Take out the setting and the plotline and the moment that comes right before this song and instead, just focus on the words. This has been running through my mind all night as I watched the electoral votes get tallied. I serenaded the twins with it during the bathtime and received a blank look and a "what is this morning glow?" from the ChickieNob. What is this morning glow, babe? It's the hope that can only shine after true change has taken place.

Morning Glow

So many steps need taking
So many plans need making
I think I will
I think I will

Morning glow, morning glow
Starts to glimmer when you know
Winds of change are set to blow
And sweep this whole land through
Morning glow is long past due

Morning glow fill the earth
Come and shine for all you're worth
We'll be present at the birth
Of old faith looking new
Morning glow is long past due

[ALL]
Oh, morning glow, I'd like to help you grow

[PIPPIN]
We should have started long ago

[ALL]
So, morning glow all day long
While we sing tomorrow's song
Never knew we could be so strong
But now it's very clear

[PIPPIN]
Morning glow is almost here
Morning glow by your light
We can make the new day bright
And the phantoms of the night
Will fade into the past
Morning glow is here

[ALL]
At last!

Amen to the "at last." What an exciting night. The twins even skipped the Wonder Pets to watch some of the coverage. The Wolvog rolled around on my bed moaning, "I just like this. I want to watch it all night and all day. Can I stay up with you?" Uh...no. But I'm glad you're grooving on Wolf Blitzer.

They made me promise that I'd wake them up when we knew who was going to be the next President. I'm going to go sneak into their room right now and whisper it to them.

Congratulations President Elect Obama and congratulations to all of us. What an amazing night.

You know what? I'm not a democrat and I didn't vote Obama.

However....I can't deny, this is a big moment for our country. And agree with the man or not, this shows a progress that can't be denied and is very exciting.

I just hope that Obama will be a good president. I don't think he can't, though some of my Republican friends wouldn't agree. I think he can, and I hope he will be.

And America, a country that saw SEGREGATION not long ago...America is an amazing country and I'm proud to call her my own.

It's so very cool that your kids even know this is going on, let alone that you selected the right candidate. Yay USA!

I went and hugged P, my voting buddy, a few minutes ago. At age almost-5, he was so committed to helping me vote for Obama that he waited with me for 3 hours in 40-degree weather last week to vote.

I am so proud of this country right now, first for the sheer numbers of people who voted, and second for voting for such a wonderful candidate as our next president. It's been a long time since I felt this kind of pride in our country.

ChickieNob, I am so happy that your my little ponies will be safe for another 4 years.

Wolvog, you enthusiasm gives me so much hope.

I am so happy that my child will be born into and America where ANYTHING is truly possible. We have come so far. I have hope that all our children will have not just a future, but a future that will be so much brighter. We did this for them.

Dh is playing Springsteen's "The Rising" downstairs on the stereo before we head off to bed. : ) 5 a.m is coming VERY early, but we don't care. We saw history tonight. (And we're not even American!)

Congratulations America..although it may not matter to you, but the world was rooting for Obama.... :)

I feel like in the last hour since Obama became the President-Elect, I have travelled a million miles — and where I am now is that I am feeling hopeful for the world. I feel more keenly the sense of one world than I feel my patriotism for America. Don't misunderstand me, I love America, I just love the whole world more and I am feeling moved and optimistic for all of us.

I feel exhausted - in a good way! I hope Vintage Girl will remember this night forever, and I will go to bed feeling so comforted and relieved that we've stopped the madness at last.

Who hoo!! It was so great celebrating with all those behind Obama! I feel so honored to be a part of history in the making. Obama's speech tonight was truly inspirational, something I haven't felt from a presidential election in, well, since I've been voting (longer than I care to admit)!

My twin girls -- still in utero, for the day at least! -- picked up on my excitement and bounced around all evening. I am so relieved and proud to welcome them into *this* America.

Ditto exactly what Jess said. Whether or not you voted for Obama (I did not) this historic moment in history can't be denied. It must be celebrated.

Our future is definetly looking brighter now. What a wonderful country we live in!

Oh my goodness, I've been sporadically teary all day and reading a series of election-related blog posts may not be the very best idea.

My colleagues know I'm prone to random bouts of tearfulness, but I don't think they grasp how special today really is.

I cried most of last night watching the returns and I'm still crying as I read the news reports this morning. Tears of joy, awe, and relief. This morning I tried to explain to my 6-year-old what an incredible moment this is and how important and wonderful it is. Unfortunately she didn't get it. But I do and I'm thrilled.

I did the same thing with my son - went into his room and whispered our next President.
This is a neat, emotional, rememberable day.

May as well light the Constitution on FIRE! If I wanted to be a socialist I'd move to Canada!

Honestly, I want to cry of happiness everytime I think about it! And I'm not American. nor do I live in America!!
Such great news!

He is still a member of one of the two major, corporate-owned, parties.

He still has the ancestry of the same families that have always held high office in the USA. He is, in many ways, a member of the elite - internationally educated including Harvard.

Of course, I have never cared for any Democrat or Republican.

Perhaps I have studied too much history to be too impressed.

This election, to me, was much like any other.

Cried most of the night, still crying this morning. What a beautiful day in our history!!!

I love how you whispered in in the twin's ears. I am sure they dreamed sweet dreams filled with hope!

Whether or not you agree with the outcome of the election, can't you see how amazing it is that so many people participated in the process? I can't tell you how annoyed it makes me, election after election, to hear people say, "Oh, I never bother to vote." But finally, people got out and made their voices heard in record numbers. They exercised their right and they met their responsibility as citizens of this country. THAT is worth celebrating and that is a historical moment in it's own right.

This truly is an amazing thing in American History and I am so glad that I was able to witness it! What really impresses me is how much the world has been behind Obama. I have so much more hope now than I have had in the past several years!! I truly am proud of America for everything we have now accomplished!! Yay!
