Circle Time: The Show and Tell Weekly Thread

Welcome back to Show and Tell. Everyone is welcome to join, even if you have never posted before and just found out about Show and Tell for the first time today. In fact, we hope you do go back to your blog and post your own Show and Tell item and then return with the link to your post. Details on how to participate are located at the bottom of this post.

Let's begin.

A week or two ago, in the middle of a massive, gulping-while-crying meltdown, I wailed, "and I've never owned a business card." It is simply just one of a long stream of things I would like and do not have. I have never had a job that warranted a business card (teaching just isn't a business card-like profession) and while I still do not have a job that warrants a business card, I cannot help coveting them and what they mean.

Josh admitted that he could not fix many of my problems, but he could have business cards made. We hopped onto the computer and went through a few design choices and finally settled on the one below. It took a long time to decide what information to place on the card because...well...when it comes down to it, I still don't have a job with an office that warrants a business card. Therefore, we were stretching a bit to find things to stick on the front.

I have crossed out my last name in the photograph (with so many spammers constantly goading me to change my penis size, it seemed circumspect to not pass out my last name here so the spam emails could be tailored to me any further), but this is the business card that I will have few chances in life to actually pass out to anyone. Perhaps, if we meet at BlogHer, you will walk away with one in your pocket.

Want to bring something to Show and Tell?
  • If you would like to join circle time and show something to the class, simply post each Sunday (or earlier in the weekend or on Monday if you can't do Sunday), hopefully including a picture if possible, and telling us about your item. It can be anything--a photo from a trip, a picture of the dress you bought this week, a random image from an old yearbook showing a person you miss. It doesn't need to contain a picture if you can't get a picture--you can simply tell a story about a single item.
  • Label your post "Show and Tell" each week and then come back here and add the permalink in the comments section below (make sure you don't just comment that you participated: add a link to your blog in your comment so people can click over). I post a new Show and Tell post every Saturday night or Sunday. I usually move people up into the body of the post every few hours.
  • Oh, and then the point is that you click through all of your classmates and see what they are showing this week.
  • If you want it...
I've now placed a Show and Tell archive on the sidebar that will be updated each week in case you miss it. And click here for the icon code if you wish to have it for your blog. It links to the archives.

I think having business card is a wonderful idea, as women we meet other women on a daily bases, what better and easer way to exchange numbers, email, or information. I know I am always searching for a receipt to right on. Great idea!! Mine is also up. Thanks for hosting Show and Tell I look forward to seeing what other people post.

LOVE your card, Mel!! LOVE IT!

I no longer have a business card, either. But I sorta want to make cards that have "No, they're not twins. You're stupid for asking. The girl is adopted, the boy is IVF, but frankly ITSNONEOFYOURBUSINESS and YES, they ARE very cute." on them. Because people. EGADS!

I think it would be better than the T-shirts I keep contemplating. After all, you can't outgrow a business card!

Calling cards are a good thing. That's really what you're talking about - calling cards tell who you are and why you were there, whether simply socially or business-related. Fortunately you can have them made on your own, for whatever purpose, whether "assisted baby-maker", tutor of preK-3rd grade, nonprofit article author, etc. Couples can also have them made with both people's info - it's much easier to just pass out that card than having to dig out one person's business card and write the other's contact info on the back, etc. I currently have two sets in my purse - one left over from when my DH and I got married (a great way to share your new married address, phone, e-mail, name, etc.), and the other about tutoring. Not that I'm doing that currently, anyway! But I've got them, and they've come in very useful. So if you covet business/calling cards, get them made for yourself! Lots of stationery places/websites do them, and they're not terribly expensive, either.

Oooo! I like the business card. I think it is perfect for you.
I always think it would be nice to get a calling card, like Victorian England or something. And not have any real contact information on it - just my name.

what a lovely funky business card! We should all have such things tucked away in our purses! (it would be so much easier than scrabbling for a piece of paper to write your phone number on!)

You are so very creative. That is a very good looking fun business card. And in fact, I agree with the other poster that creating calling cards or business cards is a great and convenient way to share your info with someone. Once we move, I'll have some done too with my address. I'd love to have three stick people on mine. But that will have to wait still a bit longer...

The business card is awesome!!! I've always wanted one, but again, as you say, teaching really isn't the profession for a business card!

Still, great one!

I love your cards Mel, they're bright and cheerful like you. :) I like the idea of having a card to hand out instead of digging in my purse for an old receipt to scribble my info on. I think you've just given my insipration to make my own cards ... thanks.

I have my post up for this weeks Show and Tell. http://hurryupnwait.ca/?p=107

I love your business card! I would be proud to have one of them.

I remember how excited I was to get my first business cards when I started my very, very small home sewing business. It meant so much to me to have something that I created to represent a business of my creations.

And I love the "assisted babymaker" bit!

Anyway...here is my show and tell for the week. This week I'm showing off my collection of Danish Christmas plates.

I made some business cards for myself on vistaprint.com (cheap!), and I feel so important now. However, I wouldn't trade my non-business-card-teaching-job for a business-card-wielding-corporate-job ever again. Been there, done that.

My S&T this week is miserably ridiculous, but it's all I got for now! ;) http://fertileramblings.blogspot.com/2008/07/show-tell.html

I love your business card - I've actually been meaning to print up personal "business cards" because they are very handy when you run into old friends or make new ones. I doubt I'm alone in losing the old bank machine receipts that have phone numbers written on them.

I had SAHD cards made for hubby. He liked them but we have run out.... now to decide on an improved model!

On our blog, I am showing a quilt I received as a gift from someone I have not met (for my future daughter). She says she is grateful for the support we have given her through bloggy comments. We are amazed. Bloggy friends: you can and DO make a difference in others lives. We were fortunate enough to hear from this bloggy "friend".

I wish to thank all of you for the love you shared with us; my infertility was a hidden, long suppressed guilt. Reading your stories has helped me shed a few tears and accept my circumstances. You are all loved so much! Thanks!
